Fonts In Use: Triton Sports Font - 2018 FIFA World Cup

I'm back at it with another wild story.
Growing up, I played soccer and a few other sports but baseball and soccer were my main ones. Soccer, however, was my true love when it came down to a choice of what I felt I wanted to pursue more than anything. After realizing the financial investment it would have taken for me to go pro much less college...I didn't follow through and stuck to playing recreationally. The dream was always there to play in a World Cup and be part of that moment.
Fast forward a decade after college and I created Triton, a new sports font I had just created over a weekend in 2017 not long after my son was born. I was inspired by the creative team over at the Minnesota Vikings and I decided to build off their type work. It all clicked, I launched the first iteration of Triton and then a few weeks or months it started selling more than my other fonts. I'd get asked to join font bundles over various sites mainly for Triton to be included and I was like...sure...the more, the better! I had no idea what I was doing but I was trying to be wise in my moves if that makes sense.
In the Summer of 2018, the FIFA World Cup begins and I'm watching games like any soccer fan and I'm also thinking...man, how cool would it be if I saw MY font on a jersey or 2. It didn't happen, I thought I saw something familiar though on Costa Rica's kits, but it felt off. I told my wife while watching the game and then kind of dismissed it. No way my font got used in a World Cup without me knowing about it...aren't they supposed to tell you?
Fast forward a few years afterward and I decided to look into it and I was stunned. Yeah...that's Triton's number set but customized a little by the New Balance kit designer for Costa Rica's kits that year. I found a bunch of photos and grabbed them cause...you know...record keeping.
I ended up typing Triton's numbers out next to the Costa Rican versions and it's very subtle but I'm 99.9999% certain those started as mine.
I do wish someone would've told me and let me truly experience that World Cup in a different way but I'm hoping I'll get another chance in the future.
